Robert is the Founding and Managing Partner of Kirunda & Co. Advocates. He has a wealth of experience in advising clients in the public and private sectors on the dynamic and evolving landscape of emerging technologies.
Robert was part of the team that developed Uganda’s National 4IR Strategy and is leading the team conducting a legal and policy audit on the Science, Technology and Innovation sector. He is also a recognized intellectual property agent of the African Industrial Property Organization.
In addition, Robert advises clients on complex, multi-sectoral transactions offering pragmatic and commercially focused and astute counsel. He is an Advocate of the Courts of Judicature in Uganda, an accredited arbitrator, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Robert has a wealth of experience in dispute resolution. He has handled several complex commercial and constitutional cases and served as counsel and arbitrator in several multimillion-dollar disputes.
He also presently serves as co-head of the Arbitration Law cluster of the Uganda Law Society. Robert teaches law at Makerere University School of Law, where he is also the Convener of the Centre for Law and Emerging Technologies (CLET).
He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Law, Science, and Technology from Stanford Law School, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Trade and Investment from the University of the Western Cape, an honors degree in Law from Makerere University, and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from Law Development Center.
